A common question which we are asked is “Shouldn’t these procedures be done by a dermatologist or a plastic surgeon?” Whilst these healthcare providers were the first to offer these therapies, the procedures can be offered by a number of qualified healthcare professionals including dentists. Botulin toxin is a type of purified protein used to give the face a younger, smoother appearance with fewer visible lines. It is injected into the facial muscles and blocks the transmitters between the motor nerves, not allowing them to contract. By preventing the muscles from contracting, the dynamic motion which causes wrinkles in the skin is reversed.
